The 33-kilometer route from Valkeakoski to Tampere features a mix of dirt paths, forest roads, and trails. The asphalt portion of the route is approximately five kilometers. In addition to the running categories, there is an option to participate in a walking category, which is not timed. The event is organized in cooperation with Tampereen Taivaltajat ry and Valkeakosken Retkeilijät ry. The history of the Pirkan Hölkkä dates back to 1970.
